Ellen Moore
CEO and co-founder

Ellen is our "big idea" person, making community contacts and coming up with new ways for us to work with and support readers and reading groups. When she's not facilitating a book group or writing a ReadSmart Guide, Ellen reads 10 or so books a week and adds tasty selections to the Recommended Books section of our site.

Ellen is completing her doctorate at the University of Denver, working on a dissertation about--surprise, surprise - book groups! She has six years experience teaching English at DU. She was a member of the team of graduate students that organized a 1997 conference entitled "(Ir)Reconcilable Differences: The Marriage of Writers and Critics" and made her first of many academic conference paper presentations at that conference. Ellen has worked as a teacher, a counselor, and an activities director for several different age groups - in a day care center, a camp, a grade school, a junior high school, and an assisted living center. She has extensive experience settling arguments, organizing diverse people into coherent groups, and energizing anyone who is willing to try to have fun. She enjoys forcing people to get along and have a good time - but only if they really want to. She lives with her husband in Denver, CO.

Kira Stevens
COO and co-founder
kira@goodbookslately.com

When you email us at Good Books Lately, chances are you'll hear back from Kira Stevens. Kira takes care of the details, managing our customer database, updating the GBL web site, and designing our discussion guides. When she's not facilitating a book group or teaching college English, Kira selects provocative passages from author interviews and literary reviews for our ReadSmartGuides.

Kira is finishing her Ph.D. in English, and she has eight years experience teaching English at the University of Denver and other colleges. She is currently researching book group culture and "the Oprah Effect" for her dissertation. Kira has presented literary papers at many academic conferences, and she represented Denver's renowned Tattered Cover Book Store at the 1996 Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association Conference. She has ten years experience working at Tattered Cover, learning about the book-selling business and the tastes and needs of book group customers. For several years, she participated in the store's annual Book Club Seminar. Kira has incredible focus and drive, a long history with readers in both academic and commercial settings, and a quiet confidence that soothes even the most confused customer or anxious student. Her compulsive love for organization and detail runs rampantly unchecked by modern pharmacology, to the delight of all her coworkers. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Helen Hart
Director of Business Development

Helen works closely with Ellen building a vision of the future of Good Books Lately and with Kira defining plans and initiatives to get us there. She balances big ideas and long-term strategies with small details and short-term needs.

Helen graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Italian, and Women's Studies. When she's not building relationships with the reading community, Helen spends her time exploring emerging technologies and developing ways for Good Books Lately to advance the cause of literacy and the appreciation of reading and discussing books.

Ivy Hastings
Director of Corporate Services

Ivy works with local businesses to develop customized services for their employees. She also develops the long-term goals and strategies of the corporate division.

Ivy's years of experience in sales, marketing, and management make her the ideal person to create connections between Good Books Lately and the business community. We are especially thrilled that Ivy comes to us with lots of literary experience as well: she is a graduate of the Radcliffe program in publishing, a former bookseller, a book reviewer, and a writer. Ivy brings the world of books into the business world with creativity and confidence, building book groups and team-building at the same time. The folks she works with have so much fun talking about books, they forget it's good for them (and for their business!).

Jennifer Henderson
Literary Consultant, children's books specialist

Ellen and Kira had the good fortune to meet Jennifer Henderson at the first Good Books Lately literary seminar in July 2000. Since then she has been lending her organizational talents with us, helping to plan and coordinate events as well as planning for the soon-to-be-launched children's division of Good Books Lately.

Jennifer also works as the community liaison for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and will soon be using her wide-ranging knowledge of children's books to recommend titles, plan special events, and bring kids and books together in children's division.

Jen Tomlinson
Executive Assistant

Jen Tomlinson usually ends a phone conversation with "I'm on it," and she means it. At Good Books Lately, we call her our "assistant" for lack of a better word--she combines bookselling experience, literary expertise, and a love of books with an impressive ability to get things done.
